Pre Colonoscopy

Medications

Do not take the following medications for 5 days before your colonoscopy:

  • No anti-inflammatory medications such as: Aspirin®, Aleve®, Advil®, Ecotrin®, Motrin® etc.
  • No blood thinning medications such as: Coumadin®, Plavix®, Pradaxa® etc.
  • No iron and vitamins.
  • No herbal medications for 10 days prior to your procedure.
  • Tylenol® is ok to take if needed.
  • If you have been advised not to stop your blood thinners, by either your primary care physician or cardiologist, please inform our doctor so that appropriate steps can be taken in a timely manner to ensure that you are off blood thinners for the shortest possible time.

Day Before Colonoscopy

  • Have clear liquid diet starting when you wake up the day before the Colonoscopy.
  • Start drinking the Moviprep® at 5:00 pm. Take the first liter over one hour (8 oz glass every 15 min.) In addition, take 16 oz of clear fluids. Remain on clear liquids until bedtime.
  • Start drinking the second liter of MoviPrep® solution over an hour (8 oz glass every 15min.) 4 ½ hrs. prior to your check in time the morning of your procedure. In addition, take 16 oz of additional clear liquids following the second liter.
  • NOTHING TO DRINK AFTER SECOND PREP. REMAIN NOTHING BY MOUTH.

Day of Colonoscopy

  • Please take your blood pressure/heart medications with a sip of water. DO NOT take your diabetic medications.
  • Arrive well in time for your procedure, it takes about 60 minutes to register and get you ready for the procedure.

Checklist Before Going To The Hospital

  • Bring a list of your medications to the hospital. At the hospital the nurse will talk with you about your health. If you think you may have trouble with this, please bring another adult with you.
  • If you have an ostomy you should bring your supplies with you in case you need to change it.
  • If you have diabetes check your glucose as usual and bring the results with you to the hospital. You may need to have your glucose checked at the hospital.

IMPORTANT INSURANCE INFORMATION:

  • It is your responsibility to know your benefits/deductibles. We will get prior authorization for your procedure if required. There will be separate charges from the facility, anesthesia group if an anesthesiologist is needed, and our office.
